90. Overcoming Toxic Emotions

“It is not a person or situation that affects your life; it is the meaning you give to that person or situation, which influences your emotions and actions. Your choice is to change the meaning you gave it or to change your response, in order to create the outcome you want.”

-Shannon L. Alder

Episode 90- can you believe it?! Me either, we are out here:) On that note, I am excited to welcome author, speaker, and no BS spiritual healer, Leah Guy, to the T&T mic! We are truly the masters of our own minds that leads all else. We know it’s a daily practice and Leah provides insight and steps into letting go of toxic emotions. Leah invites you to “break up with blame and create happier, healthier relationships- replace negative self-talk with self-love, forgiveness, compassion, and joy!”. Everyone deserves to feel loved and valued! Enjoy this one, cheers!

Highlights:

Value, self-talk, control, mindset. Healing, thoughts, energy, simple things. Questioning a better way. Relief and release. Trauma and forgiveness. A new day a new mindset, happiness.

Experience

Like many of you, I’ve had my share of obstacles to overcome; addictions, rape, anxiety, eating disorders….The work that I teach has not only given me my life back, but helped me achieve some of my wildest dreams and soar.

Some of the things I’m proud of in my journey are maintaining a private practice for 25 years and teaching workshops and retreats for 12 of those years. I’m the author of three books, and have been able to appear on many shows and interview some of my favorite celebrities just like I dreamed about as a child. I believe in dreams, and when we become clear in who we are and empowered with that truth, anything is possible. That fact is what inspires me to get out of bed each morning.

89. PodFest Fam Reunion 2021

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”

-Coretta Scott King

It’s been 1 YEAR since we all met at PodFest 2020 and oh, what a year it has been (T&T Ep. 34)! I am so excited to welcome back Sara McInerney Hauck (Facing Fear podcast), Melissa Goodwin (Girl Gotta Hike podcast), and Vivana Soto (Life Whispers podcast) to the #TurmericAndTequila mic! Little did we know at this time last year we were at the last in person event we’d all be at for a very long time. We were all new to the podcast scene and really didn’t know what to expect for the weekend at PodFest aka welcoming American Idol’s William Hung to the T&T mic, ha. Additionally, and also unknowingly, we were officially uniting as a podcast family, meeting many of the people we would keep in touch with and lean on for all things podcasting in the coming year (and beyond). We met fellow casters, podcast biz owners, niche topic/passion enthusiasts, audio engineers (shout out to resident T&T audio master, Theon Walls), and so many other varsity podcast community members. I hope to one day say (and it’s confirmed), it was the initial gathering of the future podcast gods- under one mission, so help us Joe Rogan. Until then, we shall remain humble in this podcast jungle and enjoy the crap out of the journey! Sara, Melissa, Vivana, and myself, catch up on our podcast successes, failures, and funnies over this past year. We share what we have learned, pro tips, and the joy that casting AND the community has brought to our lives. If you’re jumping into podcasting, are a long-time podcaster, or just a lover of passionate humans, this cast is for you. We don’t know where the casting trails leads, but we know one thing- we have each other… and some tequila:). Cheers to many more #PodFam reunion shows to come!

87. Trial, Error, Balance

Failure is essential. Trial and error is necessary.”

-David Bergen
I am excited to welcome Kristin Jekielek to the T&T mic! Kristin embodies graceful disruption as she shares her journey going from astrophysics degree to entrepreneur when she realized that “people like her” could also break free and do things their own way. Kristin shares that the jump from the corporate world wasn’t entirely her own as her health took a turn and she was unbale to work. Thankfully, she had a few side hustles going on that eventually led to a full-time situation… universe speaks! Even being very dialed in with her health, crossfit, diet , etc., Kristin had to take matters further into her own hands and change the path personally and professionally. This is a great conversation for anyone wondering why they seek change or a better way when they did “all the right things”. Trial, error, and all the juicy failure just might be the arrows pointing you in the right direction to not only professional success, but also true self enlightenment #notforsale. After all, everything is connected- so if the inside is off, so is the outside. Worry not, you can always change your perspective and actions and get back on the path you were always meant to be on. Thanks for an awesome convo, Kristin, keeping crushing and disrupting as you do #cardio!

Highlights:

Questioning a better way. Breakdown, breakthrough. Perspective and doing less. Inner peace = outer success. Health is wealth. Entrepreneurship. Breaking up with the corporate world. Awareness. Self-love. Chasing the dream. Mindset.

Kristin Jekielek:

Kristin Jekielek believes your business needs to create more video. After graduating college with an honors degree in astrophysics, Kristin worked as a software consultant for a Fortune 50 company delivering innovative software technologies. After seeing the power and value of video marketing for her own side hustles, Kristin launched Value Video Marketing to help companies cross “weekly video” off their to do list.

How is marketing consulting going for you these days?

86. Perfection

“Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it.”

-Salvador Dali
Oh, how I love a conversation around balance… obvi, Turmeric & Tequila:) Today I welcome Shelley Goldstein to the mic and she jumps right in sharing her journey as a true creative battling the idea of perfection. Anyone that creates knows that it comes from a place within, where there is nothing to compare because there is nothing else like it. If that makes sense? However, we are all humans of today’s world, so we find things to compare, even when creatively is incomparable. Human behavior. Comparison is the thief of joy, as we know, AND it’s a constant awareness to pull back and let go of any idea of perfection, aka stop comparing. Shelley shares her experience as a true perfectionist and how it got her to the top of her game, only for her to pull back and lean into full self-acceptance. From the top of the costume industry on Broadway to digital marketing strategist mastery, the real end game was letting go of perfection so true joy could ensue and the real riches of life could fully be experienced. If you are competitive, an entrepreneur, a parent/coach, or anyone looking to start something- this cast is for you. Yes, we want to do all we can to be our best AND we need to embrace the imperfect path that gets us there. Remind me of this… 🙂

Highlights:

Questioning a better way. Perfection. Letting go. Letting go of perfection. Balance, awareness, and becoming a better you. People care less that you do, relax. The button doesn’t matter. Greatness vs. perfection. Success in failure. Listening and not listening. Mindset and flexibility. Letting it happen. Life skills through sports.

Shelley Goldstein

I’m Shelley, nice to meet you! I am a marketer, blogger, quintessential tourist and profoundly curious.

My marketing journey was a happy accident. I was busy following my dream as a costume designer, cutting my teeth on Broadway shows like La Cage Aux Folles42nd Street and national tours for Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey Circus. A well-defined identity, combined with technical chops, was the best education in becoming a marketer with an out-of-the-box perspective and start-up mindset.

As a digital marketer and strategist for over 15 years, I’ve helped develop a range of brands and websites for products, services and events. I’m savvy using traditional and non-traditional marketing tactics across paid, earned and owned media, and experienced in both B2B and B2C transactions. I can also ride an elephant and craft some serious millinery.

Maybe that’s reason friends and family encouraged me to write. My unique viewpoint on marketing best practices intertwined with personal discoveries and anecdotes is, as they tell me, amusing and relatable. I also use a lot of commas, suggesting a brief pause.

I welcome you to read and take pause, and share your comments with me.
