36. The Power of Connection: People, Work, Energy, Organs

The older we get, the more we see how it all connects… all of it! If you want to maximize positive output, you have to learn the balanced recipe of covering all the bases, as much as you can, in all that you do. That sounds overwhelming, but it’s really about pulling back and potentially doing less if you can identify what habits, behaviors, or beliefs are actually contradicting and delaying your growth, evolution, or gains in general. For example, you can follow a high end, elite training regiment, but if you fuel like crap and don’t sleep- it’s going impact the way you show up to work out. Thus, limiting your ability to perform and then impacting the overall progression of your growth as an athlete/competitor. It’s not about training more, it’s about training smarter and looking at a “whole life” approach to living in general… not just to train better and more effectively:). How can we pull back the curtain and see what’s really going on? To be a better athlete, spouse, business owner, person? If you are into health and wellness or new to the conversation, you quickly realize that addressing one thing only leads to another and you see how everything really connects.

On this cast, I sit down with longtime friend and personal go-to for all things health, Dr. Missy Albrecht. I have known Missy for over 6 years and she has seen me through the thick of my competitive athletic journey, professional marketing/branding biz and so much more. We riminess of the good ol’ days of common connects (humans and beliefs) and the initial conversations and really helped propel both of our personal and professional missions. Missy shares her journey as a medical professional, entrepreneur, and human balancing science with energy and spirit in an evolving wellness practice field. If you are into human optimization on a very high level or looking to just wake up feeling better, this is a good listen. Little tricks and inside views are shared from a doc that has been around the block in many environments with a wealth of knowledge and experience to back the convo. Health, wellness, nutrition… it can be a lot and it’s so hard to find great voices to lead the way without a marketing agenda. Dr. Missy is your go-to. We scratch the surface on so many larger, deeper convos around overall health, but this cast is a great general intro to those bigger, more specific conversations… reach out to Dr. Missy accordingly:)

Highlights

All around health, wellness, and balance. Inner and outer health, mental, physical, and even organ movement? Harboring negative energy. Exuding positive vibes. The power of connecting. Human connection. Body and mind and organ connection. Movement is medicine, our muscles, our minds, our organs. The associate between stored energy and belief. Human and body support, it takes a village. The evolution of the environment, the career, the self. Filter your audience, maximize your impact.

35. Taking The Leap

Following your dreams are hard (#cardio), and often times those dreams change. As we grow, evolve, and gain experience (usually the hard way), we get clear on what we want AND more specific on what we actually need. Navigating the process from the initial idea of wanting to change/chase the dream to actually taking that first step in the chase is the HARDEST part.

On this cast I sit down with varsity human and all-around go-getter, Janine Shae. Janine is a fitness enthusiast, hailing from the financial world, where she stayed only long enough to realize it wasn’t for her. She dodged the golden handcuffs and she took the leap to chase her young entrepreneurial dreams. She shares her journey from the corporate world to buying a hotel in a hard part of town to the startup world and back again, in search of investors- all while under 35! She is now launching her second biz from pure heart space AND her clear visibility of a gap in the fitness market. Introducing Flex Gym Share. Let’s just say it’s like the Lyft of gym memberships… sharing your gym membership with fellow fitness enthusiasts- benefitting the athlete, gym, and everyone else involved along the way. Check this cast out to hear the full 411… it’s packed full of wise words and noteworthy lessons, particularly if you are an entrepreneur. Like Janine, her team is impressive. If you haven’t heard of Flex gym Share yet, you will (her team members are from Facebook, Uber, etc). Take notes on this one!

Highlights

Questioning a better way. Entrepreneurs. Trial and error. Full circle learnings, building the foundation. Prioritizing what you really want in life- kids, time, spouses. Taking the leap to a better day and way!

Janine Shae:

Janine is a former investment banker turned serial entrepreneur. For years she’s found strength and sanctuary in the gym. Her motto is, “Through discipline comes joy,” which she finds especially true with a workout regimen. Janine saw a huge opportunity to help more people find joy through fitness by eliminating the factors that compromise discipline. She founded Flex with the goal to remove cost as a barrier for millions to live healthier lives, and to provide easier access to fitness facilities wherever you go. Janine is a champion for gyms and equally dedicated to helping operators build more profitable and engaged communities.

34. PodFest 2020, THANK YOU

This is a fun one! I was fortunate enough to attend PodFest 2020 in Orlando, FL, before all the craziness of CV19 went down… like right before! What is PodFest? In a nutshell, it’s a convention for podcasters, podcast enthusiasts, or people looking to get into podcasting… AND some of the best human beings I have ever met. I went to this conference to learn about all things podcast (we new out here!), but had no ideas that I would be embraced by a community of passionate humans with one main thing in common: we are all here to speak out. This was one of the most diverse situations I have ever been in, it was nothing short of beautiful. Most casts are yet to be monetized, so the passion project status was real. The community is largely made up of people saw a lack of light being shined on certain topics and they took it upon themselves to shine that light and share their voice. Casts ranged from military and transiting into civilian life, to managing celebrities, to life, death, coping, healing, sports, recovery, and things you can’t think of, but there are casts about it, because you should:). Chris Kirmitsos, the Founder of PodFest, leads with the heart and set the tone early on that this was an inclusive event AND community as a whole, led by kindness and care for one another. Chris exemplifies the idea of “attuite reflects leadership” as there many acts of kindness and support throughout the weekend. People helping people and furthermore, helping them share their messages. It was beyond inspiring.

I had to take the opportunity to gather my new casting BFF’s and cast at the event… ordered a 1.75 of (QUALITY) tequila, a couple pizzas, and pressed record! The background noise is a character in itself and we have some special guests drop in, including THE William Hung, who has an awesome message and story, well beyond American Idol. Check out bios and casts of all these great ladies (links below): Sara, Melissa, Vivana, and Heather – who share their story, their cast, their advice, and their orders to the universe! THANK YOU, LADIES, for joining me and sharing your good words, can’t wait for next year!!

Highlights

The whole darn cast!! Turmeric, tequila, pizza. Starting a podcast. Goals for a cast. Fear, life, hiking, spirituality, and everything in between. Advice, messages to the universe, something larger than us. KINDNESS and casing about our fellow humans. Missions and magic. Good people, good deeds, and enjoying the ride. Wash your hands and cheers!

33. Choosing Not To Have Kids

No surprise, big choices in life are HARD! Many of those “big life decisions” are made conscious or unconsciously with the influence of what we “should” do… Likely something like this: you grow up, graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married, have kids, retire and that’s that. This is the American Dream we all thought we wanted, would have, and would be happy with. It goes something like that until it doesn’t haha… most of us know that the more your plan it, the more that plan changes. I was not that kid or planner, I mainly just wanted to graduate high school, play lacrosse and look forward to having my freedom to do what I wanted. It wasn’t even an entrepreneurial dream, just freedom seeking. Not even sure where that comes from, but independence is in my top 2 core values, so things make sense:) #onbrand

Deepak Chopra said is well, “we are all under the hypnosis of social conditioning” in his latest book, Meta Human (meta meaning beyond). Meaning, our realities (and expectations) are what they have been conditioned to be. Until you question a better way! This podcast conversation really ties back to most of the podcasts I have- the base line theme of really getting to know yourself and what YOU want, not what society wants for you (or wants you to want). The American Dream is wonderful if that’s what you authentically want!

Myself and two good friends, Nadia and Sarah, talk about our life experience thus far and why we have made the choices we have. I am still a bit on the fence as far as kiddos, but Sarah and Nadia are firm in their decisions to have not have children and they discuss why, their conversations with family about it, and evolving stigma doing something outside of the norm. It’s a breath of fresh air to see and hear two passionate women, strong in their convictions and missions to the world to be so clear on a big decision- a decision that is usually not the popular one. Regardless of the decision topic, we could all take some notes from these two on getting to know ourselves, what we want, and standing strong in those choices!

Highlights

Taking time to get to know yourself. Having and not having children. Choosing the unpopular choice. Following your heart. Mission and impact. Dogs, nieces, nephews, and plants:). Having money, time, and energy for other things. People who were meant to be parents and people who love their kids, but wouldn’t choose to have children again. Reality without jedgement. Make yourself happy, make the world a better place.
