15. Colorism

MEANINGFUL CONVO ALERT:) Yes, EVERY cast is so very meaningful AND this one in particular is a necessary PSA for everyone. The world is evolving and this convo is proof (we have some work to do tho). KO sits down with the wonderful Raven Roberts of Own Your I Am, to discuss the state of the world today- colorism, fashion, marketing, and how the society and ideology around all of those things coexists and collide. We go in on this one! Raven might be small in stature, but her presence and voice are to be heard, seen, and felt. Her personal and professional missions work around creating space and grace for everyone that might not be in “the know” and it’s a beautiful thing (especially when it comes to her styling abilities!). The patients are real! We can all take notes here on several levels here.

Raven and KO also discuss bringing the unconscious conscious, the importance of representation, the impact of money and politics and business. It is an unlevel playing field, but they see light at the end of the tunnel and believe in the power of conversation. Raven’s sound advice around “maybe not changing a person’s mind right away, but planting a seed for the future or long game” is a solid idea we can all carry in our back pocket with every conversation we have with everyone. Conversation and communication just might work:)

Highlights

Colorism, white privilege, representation, and empowerment. HAIR. Medical camp? Nurture vs. Nature. Racism, we are not born that way. Authenticity. Gucci in the hot seat and a round of applause for Starbucks. Diversity training. Responsibility in business and as an influencer. Our kids kids. Organic actions vs. trends. The ripple effects. Doing what you can to make the world a more aware, loving, and accepting place.

14. Expanding Your Awareness

Building a business/life from divine intervention… even when you had a plan:) This is an awesome cast where hard work and the larger order merge to put you exactly where you need to be as a person and as a professional. KO sits down with fitness professional (and borderline life coach), Sunny Bayne. Sunny is a personal trainer and long-time horse enthusiast, in fact it’s her spirit animal. Sunny shares her fitness business journey and everything that helped guide her to where she is right now. They cover all things horses- from riding, to taming (ish), to training, to how horses helped Sunny deal with humans on a deeper level. The discussion mainframes around the acknowledgment that the answers and guidance we need are all around us, we just need to be aware and conscious. Because we are here in fact, to evolve. Continuously. Being aware of your moral and natural compasses are legit cardio workouts, look alive.

Highlights

Animals teaching humans, intro to spirituality, evolution, awareness, consciousness. Meeting people where they are at. Focusing on the people that show up for you. Letting the opposition be. Hawks. Collective consciousness. Control vs. the universe. Ecology. Nonverbal communication and the natural myopic narrative we live in as human beings. And a pony named horse.

Sunny Bayne

Trainer & Yoga Teacher

Sunny is a fitness enthusiast and personal trainer from Lexington, KY.  As the owner of Sunny Bayne Fitness, she specializes in corrective exercise, sports exercise, and yoga. 13. Body, Mind, Spirit…Humanizing Your Brand

All things CBD! We cover all the good questions you SHOULD ask before you purchase something you’re about to put into your body…mind, and spirit! Being a Colorado native, you’d think KO knows a lot about CBD and anything to do with weed in general, not so!  KO sits down with Erba Essentials Founder, Briana Austin, and covers everything from sourcing, to dosage, to stigma around CBD. Did you know there is a difference between CBD and marijuana? Don’t laugh, most people don’t and will be disappointed they don’t get a high from CBD… but might be less inflamed:) Bri shares her path from her holistic upbringing Armenian roots to her deep passion for mental health (not to mention her master’s degree in it) and how her good practices in a mostly unregulated space are in place for long term, positive societal impact via CBD. Bri also shares how these core values stem from her family and their support- entrepreneurship is in her blood. Thanks Mom!  Major point of the conversation is around humanizing your brand, bring transparent with what’s in your product and who is behind it. How refreshing! We discuss the impact of CBD and the traditional medical and pharmaceutical space, the audience that should be taking CBD, and why it might be ideal for your pet AND your kids?! It’s all about responsibility, as a business owner, consumer, and human being.

Highlights

Quality> Quantity, responsibility, marketing and supplements, the right fish> the big fish, questions to ask when buying CBD, holistic healthcare, inflammation, help with sleep, pro sports and retired athletes, seeking the truth and voting with your dollar. Mental Health. The universe speaks, you just need to listen.

12. Breakdown, Breakthrough

This is the first of the Be Golden Podcast Series… that’s right, had the pleasure of doing 5 casts in 3 days with some incredible speakers, attendees, and hosts of the 2019 Be Golden Conference in Bloomington, Indiana.

On this first one we check back in with Sara McInerney- our first, 2nd time guest:)! The timing could not be more perfect. On our first cast with Sara and The Chloe Barnes, we discussed life and what was on the agenda for both of them in the coming year. We quickly learn on this cast, sometimes our plans don’t align with the universe’s plans, and that’s ok. The best lessons are usually leaned the hardest way, and then stick the most. Sara and KO cover breakdowns and breakthroughs…an easy flowing convo on some tough pills to swallow. Ideally you can pull from our leanings on this one and streamline some process in your own world. And if not, just know the lessons are worth the process- take it from us:) The importance of slowing down, actually feeling, and getting back in touch with your athletic self is a process that never ends, needs to be honored, and if you don’t do it, the universe will… for you own good! Getting EMOSH, the new fave cardio. Here we go!

Highlights

Busy=Numb, transition, self-care, self-check-in, getting knocked off the rails= clarity, challenge to change, when emotions become physical, more is not more, updating the narrative, evolution, sharing the voice, privilege= responsibility, chasing fire and impact. Process and practice and not perfection. Progress and reflection. Take care of you and you can take care of everyone else more.

Sara McInerney:

Sara is honored to be T&T first returning guest. The universe brought KO and Sara together for this conversation where this otherwise confident young woman doesn’t feel so grounded in certainty at the moment. Sara is listening to her gut and trying to follow her intuition into this next chapter she feels coming. Today she took a big step in writing that new chapter by launching her own podcast called Facing Fear. Sara attempts to follow her own advice and face this next chapter with courage.

11. Life Skills via Sports

HEART FULL! This cast takes us down memory lane…running in sweat pants , holding a Natty Light, late to class and/or practice. Priceless memories, experiences, and relationships that have paved our foundation for “adulthood”.

Yes, this one is about colligate athletics! To be or not to be a student athlete? KO shares convo, laughs, and tequila (cuz we grown-ish now) with collegiate classmates and fellow D1 student athletes of George Mason University: Meg (Dentler) Thomas (lacrosse) and JP Clark (swimming). AND we were lucky enough to have Kristin Clark (actual student), JP’s wife, in the house sharing the student experience sands athletics. Kristin is a James Madison alum, reading enthusiasts, former sorority member, and overall ground voice to this cast. Thank you in advance to Kristin for chopping through the GMU weeds the 3 of us provided on this one- the counter balance is perfect:)!!

They discuss the experience of the student athlete from the friendships to the schedule, managing the social with a 48hr rule… and everything in between. Committing to be a student athlete is no small commitment, but all agree on this one; it’s worth a try if you think it’s for you. The college experience is only 4… 5, or 6 years (we’re doctors, like Dr. Dre), but the relationships, self-discovery, and all-around life skills you gain through sports allows you to graduate a leg up, with a network, and few great storied in tow… that should and should not be shared down the road- in our opinion. We are honest about our experience, so if you are a soon to be HS grad or a parent with a kiddo questioning college sports- this is a good one for you! Pack a helmet… for the cast and life, 18 is crazy either way.

Highlights

Life skills through sports, teamwork, college sports = full time job, life long friends, cheap booze, commitment, Chanello’s Pizza, running groups, pleading the 5th, professors who see you before you see yourself, find your value and voice, arts and crafts: making your own graduate cords, not going to NY, fun, practice, building a bond.

Special SHOUT OUT: This came up in a GMU IG group the other day… when pulling back to reflect, I couldn’t believe we got to spend every day together- laughing, training, studying, and just growing up. So cool. SO appreciate all my GMU friends, fellow student athletes, and even my professors (that may or may not say it back haha)… such a wonderful period in life, so grateful I got to share those times with all of you. Cheers to acting the same, but now having jobs that can fund the party. xo

Quick Bios:

Meg Thomas: I am an ex-laxer from George Mason University. I went to school to play lacrosse, and for some reason they gave me an art degree.

I extended my college days by being a Div 1 coach for about 11 years.  Although it was fun,  I decided it was time to grow up in 2016 and got married and a “real” big girl job as a graphic designer.

I now live in Rockville, MD with my husband, Brendan, who still works in college athletics. In 2018, I decided I needed to switch gears again and I joined a political mail consulting firm (yes all that political junk mail) where I am the director of production. I coordinate everything on the art side of our printed and digital pieces.
